2021 Review and Looking at 2022

2021 was in a lot of ways even more difficult than 2020. Group classes and after school classes didn’t start back up until after the summer. Reserves are empty because of shutdowns and decline in revenue starting March 2020. Less government help for small businesses. Hiring more quality coaches was almost impossible (so thankful we have Coach Jaymes!!). But nonetheless, we made it through and are very excited about what we’ve been able to accomplish!

  • 600+ private lessons at our facility
  • 200+ private lessons at location
  • 50+ strength & conditioning lessons
  • 25+ live video private lessons
  • 20 weeks of group classes for PreK – 12th grade
  • 10 weeks of After School Classes at Santa Rita Elementary
  • 6 weeks of Basketball Clinics at the West Austin Youth Association
  • 4 weeks of Summer Basketball Camps
  • 1 week of Christmas Basketball Camp
  • NEW: Toddler Sports Classes
  • NEW: High School Boys Sports Performance Classes
  • Freestyle Select Basketball Teams (MS Boys and HS Girls)
  • School Team Coaching at Meridian High School (Coach Ayla) and
St. Andrews Middle School (Coach Jasper)
For 2022, we are looking to continue what we’ve been able to start back up in the Fall of 2021. We are looking to get back into Select Basketball and looking into opportunities for 3 on 3 basketball as well. We would like to offer After School classes at more schools. We will continue our Toddler Classes and are also partnering up with Fit4Mom Austin (more about that in a future newsletter). We will offer camps during every school break. We are also open to any suggestions and feedback from you regarding previous or new opportunities to help our business grow. We are so excited to see what the new year brings!

Personal Update by the Owners

2021 was an eventful year for us personally as well. Late 2020 we moved to Liberty Hill, so it was our first full year in our new house. Our son Huxley (2.5 years old) started preschool in January, going 3 half-days a week. In August we welcomed our daughter Camryn into the world (now 4 months old), so we’ve been trying to figure out how life works with two kids two and under! So far, it’s pretty exciting!

Coach Ayla started a parttime job in the mornings at the West Austin Youth Association as Office Manager to take some of the financial burden off Freestyle Sports.

We still feel so lucky we are able to make a living with our passion and are very grateful for all the opportunities it brings and all the cool new people we meet. While being a business owner is not easy, we wouldn’t trade it for the world!

Please Donate Items to Upgrade Facility

To be able to keep giving you the high quality instruction we strive to give you every single day, we would love to be able to upgrade our facility a bit.

One of the must-haves is new basketballs. While we would love to have more Wilson Evolution basketballs, we have tried out a new brand from Academy (Game On) and feel like that is a good, cost-effective alternative.

We also need to upgrade our light fixtures. Since the roof is a bit low on the far end of the facility, we would like to change the tube lights to a different, flat and sturdier LED light. Besides the purchase of the lights, we also need help with the lift rental and installation.

Over the Thanksgiving break, we were able to patch some holes and cracks in the walls, but would really like to give the walls a fresh coat of paint so it’s all crisp and clean again.

Then there are also a few wants, that incl. a HomeCourt station (tablet to run the app and a stand), a TV for in the lobby (for game analysis and entertainment), new seating in the lobby and various new training equipment.

We would love for you to consider donating towards these items, or if you’d like to help out any other way, like with painting the walls or installing the light fixtures, we would really appreciate it. Other ways to help us is referring us to family/friends or giving us a 5-star review on Google or Facebook.

Thank you for your continuous support and we’re looking forward to keep working with you in 2022!
